Archives

Our Archives Room The Archives was established in 1978 as a subdivision of the H. A. Valentine Memorial Library using the room that was made available by the Church Rebuilding Committee. All the church historical materials are gathered together in the Archives room and a cataloging procedure has been established.

The Archives is the depository of all the official records of High Street Christian Church. The records are placed in acid-free folders and acid-free boxes and placed in files, cabinets and storage shelves.

Records are placed in storage by all the groups of our church: Official and auxiliary boards and departments, Christian Women's Fellowship, including all Circles, Christian Men's Fellowship, Church School classes or any record of the Church. Worship bulletins and copies of the High Street Disciple (formerly the Akron Disciple) are also stored in the Archives. Copies of our Annual Reports and The High Street Disciple are sent to our National Historical Society in Nashville, TN.

We have had various churches come to see how we preserve our records. Evelyn Ling, Librarian, has held numerous workshops on preserving Archives and has a Guide published by the Church and Synagogue Library Association.

It is important to save our records from the present, in order to preserve our church heritage for those who follow.
